What's UP With Uplighting?

So, uplighting is definitely a "thing" in the event world.

Any engaged couple who has has spent a moment (or weeks) scanning Pinterest will have seen it.

In the Dallas event lighting world, it is everywhere.  We've provided uplighting in Dallas \ Fort Worth for all kinds events - wedding ceremonies, receptions, Holiday parties, fundraisers, concerts, and massive corporate meetings.

It is common.  It is budget friendly.

It is essential to a great looking

and memorable event.

Before I go too far, let's talk about what uplighting is...  In short, uplighting is when a lighting fixture is placed on the ground and focused upward - lighting up a wall, curtain, or backdrop.  It instantly adds some great ambient light - and even some color if you so choose.  I've seen a handful of Dallas venues install their own downlighting -- which is essentially the same thing, only the light is installed on the ceiling pointed downward.

Consider this.  A lot of North Texas event venues are designed to be blank canvases.   Sure, they'll have an overall vibe, but they want to allow room for their clients to come in and make the venue space their own.   Event lighting is the easiest, most affordable way to 'dress up' these venues.  A painter wouldn't display a blank canvas in their art gallery -- (unless it's some uber highbrow "art") - and special event venues should always be lit well.

We live in an Instagram world.  No doubt your guests will be posting photos of your special day.  Make sure to give them something that's Insta-worthy.   If that idea doesn't resonate, think of your event photography and videography.   Having good, well-designed uplighting in the background adds so much color, depth, and texture to the memories your photographer will be creating for you.   Dark, bland walls make for boring backgrounds.  A upshot of colored light will make your special event feel... special.

There is such a thing as "bad uplighting".   A lot of "DJ" caliber uplighting will flicker on camera.  You can't see it with your eyes in person... but the interaction between the video camera and a lower-end lighting fixture is now something you want to see on your wedding film.   Shoot me an email, and I'll explain the science behind it - but it's not cute.

The other big drag on uplighting is all the cables thrown around on the floor.   Lighting requires electricity.  There's no way around that.  If you want the lighting to change throughout your event, the fixtures need to be controlled -- with... more cables.  Here's the good news..  Muse Lighting Design's uplights are 100% wireless.   They are battery powered and can last up to 20 hours.  20. Hours.  They're controlled wirelessly by magic.  Ok.... maybe not magic... but it sure seems like it.

While we always love to bring in our entire lighting rig full of moving lights, fog jets, and awesome lighting effects, sometimes, uplighting adds just enough "wow" without breaking the budget.
